Tulane Collections Archive

First Year Studio

Tulane University has many collections stored throughout its campus and the city of New Orleans. The goal of this archive is to centralize all of Tulane’s collections into one single building. Located outside of the French Quarter is Piety Wharf, where this archive would reside.

The circular central space of the building would display the most important collection Tulane may own. A dome ceiling with clerestory windows is designed overhead of this central space to not destroy the collection with direct light. Outside of Tulane Archive’s primary exhibit would be offices, meeting rooms and research spaces. The farther one venture’s out from the central space, the less densly human populated it becomes due to the 1500 linear feet of shelving.
