Through the Hourglass
Second Year StudioThis is a one-level dormitory designed to house five college students and a cat, accommodating a diverse range of passions and lifestyles. With ADA compliance as a key design consideration for a wheelchair-using resident, the project ensures universal accessibility without compromising functionality or comfort. At the heart of the dormitory lies a central, hourglass-shaped courtyard, surrounded by the kitchen, living room, and studio, to ensure a sense of shared living. Meanwhile, sleeping quarters and bathrooms are placed along the periphery providing privacy. This thoughtful spatial organization allows students to remain visually connected through the transparent courtyard, reinforcing the idea that this dormitory is not just a residence but a harmonious, communal living experience.
