Threaded Heights
Third Year StudioBuilding on the Los Angeles master plan, this sewing and design center is designed to connect the community culturally by reflecting the city's pivotal role in the fashion world. The L-shaped building—located at the bottom left of the master plan—aims to provide spaces for sewing and design classes, fashion shows, and a marketplace for materials. The first concept of the project focuses on contrasting facades to attract visitors and create a visual identity. The curved metal facade with perforations represents the organic folds of fabric—both a visual statement and a practical element, providing sun protection shade.
The building’s internal design includes four distinct floors, each with a unique shape that, when stacked, creates a dynamic facade. The interior is split into two main bars: one for larger programs stacked vertically, and the other for smaller programs arranged linearly. The design implements extended corridors to align with the flowing curve of the facade, creating a seamless connection throughout the building. Each floor features stairs that link the levels together, with certain areas having upwards of quadruple-height ceilings for a sense of openness and vertical flow.
