3D Printed Dress
Spring 2023The Spring 2023 Tulane Fashion Show, “Blood, Sweat and Tears,” highlights the medical field and the work they do to make our lives better. Designs for this show focus on bodily anatomy, technological advancements in the field, and tributes to those who need medical help the most. 3D printing has recently become an important tool in the medical field, which prompted Tulane Fashion Club to design a 3D printed dress, resembling the human skeleton. I translated a drawn out design by Barbara Malamut into a 3D modeled dress by working closely with Nick Licausi and Jack Levine of Tulane’s Fabrication Lab. The model, Francesca Lubega had her body 3D scanned so the dress could be modeled in Rhinocerous 3D to accurately fit her body. The plastic printed parts of the skeleton dress were assembled onto the model with fishing line and hot glue.
